MSRP: $30,495
Price: $25,800
Matched a TrueCar offer from another in-state dealer, also includes $1,750 in rebates

Dealership had initially quoted me $25,600 on a Limited so was ecstatic when a TrueCar search for Kona Limiteds returned an Ultimate for only a few hundred bucks more.

Hello All!

After test driving dozens of cars, and hours of research I am ready to buy my first ever new car... a Kona Ultimate AWD in Surf Blue! I just love this zippy little thing! I have a few questions about pricing though. I've been shopping around my area and prices seem really low. The lowest offer I have found is $24,900 base price, which is an astonishing $5,600 below msrp! Another car I am looking at is an identical "new" demo Kona with 2,100 miles on it for $22,989.

Does Hyundai typically mark their cars down this much, or is it purely form the unfortunate economic situation?

Either way I plan to go buy the car next weekend. Super excited!

After visiting 2 dealers who "offered" me to pay more than $26000 for a KONA SEL I decided to do ALL the negotiations online. Once I found the best price on regular webpages I started to contact dealers online offering different prices to TEST the market.
In another visit to a real dealer I offered $20999 as my LAST PRICE. Dealer then asks for $21500. NO DEAL.
Another call to a farther dealer and I offered $21200. Dealer answers with $215000.
I told the salesman that I had that offer "HERE at this dealer" and was looking for a better price to buy the vehicle right now and after a quick manager approval my price was accepted over the phone.
Smooth transaction after that.
Final Price OUT OF THE DOOR $21200 (Los Angeles area) MSRP $23365

Hello,
I'm in Los Angeles and I was offered $21500 out of the door. (6/30/2020)
Any tip to negotiate with the dealer to get your final price?
None that you could use at this point. I was checking inventory in January, made a spreadsheet with all the cars I wanted within 100 miles, noting their stock number. I check existing inventory against my sheet in June and this vehicle was still on the lot. So in negotiating I mentioned that I knew this car had been on their lot since January. Other than that, this was the price they listed online. I just said no to all the add-ons and was pre-approved for a loan by my bank. If they can offer a lower interest rate than your bank go ahead and take it, BUT make sure you actually get it and they don't raise the base amount of the loan to make the payments the same and they keep the difference.

Negotiated with Truecar dealer.. So Cal dealer had best price by $1K. Local North Cal dealer could not beat the deal.
