I love Android Auto so much I never unplug my phone from my 2018 SE Kona. Previously I had a 32GB USB plugged in with all my CDs to play. Is there an SD somewhere? If not it would be a good idea in future models.

I don't think there is a slot for SD anywhere that I read. Looks like USB it is...careful though it mentions not leaving USB plugged in while starting your Kona...see images
I do the same, but i think i know why that warning is there. Just incase the usb drive gets a surge, and gets wiped or corrupt, Hyundai is not responsible. So no more leaving classified MI6 info with my music.
No SD card slot except for the Navigation. It's in the middle behind the screen. Good news thought they have adapters that accept an SD card and plug into the USB also!
Do you have an ebay or Amazon link for the splitter? I never thought of that because I figured it might default to one or the other. How does the infotainment system differentiate between them?
I have serious doubts that a splitter would accomplish what you want it to do - to be able to do this you'd have to be able to mount both devices and then be able to choose which mounted drive you would want to play and OEM infotainment systems are not generally this advanced. Different folders sure, different physical media drives is something else altogether.
You could possibly split to run a phone cable and a sd card or thumb drive but the phone would likely have priority when it was plugged in.
