Might not be of help but I found these ideas online:
"Took me a while to find out what a Shift lock was once I realized it was the gear stick
Just tuned the car off then restarted as others have said it will happen if you move it too fast"
"Hold the key fob against the Start button for 3 seconds and then press the Start button with the key fob. (This performs a soft reset of the system).
Alternatively disconnect the 12v battery for 5 minutes."
"You can reset fast, start without foot on brake pedal. This can happen when you stop the engine in a wrong way."
Another thought, if you have any device connected to the OBDII port, remove it There is a TSB (attached) associated with OBDII connected devices. One issue can be the shift lock error.
In my case an OBDII insurance dongle was killing my battery. Once removed my Kona has performed flawlessly. I have console gear shifter so didn't have a shift lock issue.
