Hello. I have a 2019 Kona SEL and I would like to get a spare key. I currently have two, but would like to have a third. I don't necessarily care about having a manual key pop out cut, rather I'm mainly concerned about programming the key to start the car.

I've seen keys online for roughly $70 but I know I have to program it to the car. I can't find anything specific to the Kona online short of telling me to go to the dealership. I'm a DIY kind of person so I'd rather do it myself if possible. Anyone know if programming a key is possible yourself? If so, how?

Thanks!

The device to program it probably costs more than a dealer or locksmith visit .

Thanks for your thoughts.

I know every manufacturer is a little different and sometimes you can program a third key yourself if you have two already. If this was the case I wanted to proactively make a spare key, but it sounds like this is not an option.

It was the case when the remote would only open the doors. Nowadays, You don't want an easy way for someone to clone your car key.
