Tried Motorola ma-1 and today one from AAWireless, neither seem to work on my 2023 Kona limited. Anyone out there have any luck with a wireless dongle for Android Auto? the qi charging is kind of dumb without wireless AA.

We use the Ottocast U2-X Wireless Android Auto & CarPlay 2 in 1 Adapter, and it works great, even switches between my Samsung and wife's iPhone. Bought it off the Indiegogo campaign last year, but looks like there's a newer version: U2-X Pro.

Okay - it looks like my phone was preventing AA wireless from working, the allow wireless is now a checkbox in the developer mode of the AA app, not enabled by default as it was for a short time. Still working through disconnect issues and stuttering during music playback, but it is connecting at least. I wonder if it is a blessing in disguise that these cars do not support wireless by default, it may not really be worthwhile for daily use.

Okay. After several troubleshooting efforts, including painstaking attempting to use every different 5ghz wifi channel, I am giving up on this. I had some hope that the latest patch for my phone would help, but it did not. The frequent disconnects make using wireless AA not worth the effort. I am returning the dongle(s) and will just connect the USB cable which works flawlessly.
I hope others have more luck than I did.
I should mention AAWirelss tech support has been extremely responsive and helpful, just cannot get this stable enough to use reliably. I still have not had any response from Motorola after 2 weeks in my support request.

Those dongles don't work on every car brand/model. Do a search to see if any of those is working on a Kona or Hyundai. It is usually not the phone's OS/firmware that is the issue.

The Android OS is so fragmented. It might work on one brand of phone, but not others.

There are several posts on this forum about AA dongles and a weath of information on the topic.

I have a 2018 1.6T Highlander and I've been using a Motorola MA1 for a year or so now with few issues.

I could not successfully connect the first one I purchased from Amazon and because neither Motorola or Amazon provide after sales service other than to US customers I returned it. In retrospect the problem could well have been an Id10T issue!

The second one I purchased has been great, no connection issue, no drop outs and no issues but I must admit that the MA1 instructions leave a bit to be desired.

My Samsung S21 gets a tad warm when, on a long trip I leave it in the fast charge tray running Waze, my preferred navigation app on AA. Under this use the phone seems to use as much battery as it gains from the charger. But then again, the phone gets just as hot in the fast charger when I'm not using AA.

I recently had an issue with AA not reconnecting when I got into the car and it was a bit of a nightmare trying to sort it. Daunting when you think that it could be the MA1, the Kona's entertainment system or the phone causing the fault and there's really no way of telling which is the culprit. In the end I reasoned that Android running on my phone, a Samsung S21 was the only thing in the chain that had changed. My phone always seems to be updating some dam thing or another!

I restarted the phone, re hecked the AA settings including the 'enable wireless AA' option and it seems to have sorted the issue. Time will tell I guess but the bottom line is that I can report positively on the performance of the Motorola MA1 in my Kona.
