Motoring compared the Hyundai Kona to a 2017 Mazda CX-3 and they each excel in different areas.
If a sophisticated interior and intuitive infotainment system is what you're looking for then the Mazda CX-3 may be for you. But for those who want a more punchy powertrain, the Kona's 1.6-litre turbocharged unit with a seven-speed DCT may be for you.

The comparison is pretty in depth, even down to the vehicle size: https://www.motoring.com.au/hyundai-kona-v-mazda-cx-3-2017-comparison-109727/

design is also one thing that might influence who buys either model because right now the CX-3 is one of the best looking CUV's on the market, what helps about it is the fact it carries a level of class similar to much higher end vehicles, Jaguar being one of them. In a way you can say the new Mazda's are like poor man Jaguars ;)

Well, Kona costs $4,000 more, however, I would still go with it. One of the most annoying thing about Mazda CX-3 is its ground height. I can't get why they made it so low. There is no any adequate reason for me to make compact SUV with these proportions.

Oh really? How much lower is the CX-3 from the Kona. Didn't think there was that much of a difference at all and odds are there probably isn't. Where are you getting your information from? If its true then it will raise some concern for me as well.

Well, I got a wrong information from an unverified source, nothing to worry about my friend, ground height looks pretty much similar on their official websites :D
What were you originally looking for with ground height because not everyone has the same needs and for all we know you might have specific requirements that might be better met with by the Renegade Trailhawk or even a Wrangler.

The only time I've looked at a Mazda was when they had that smiling Mazda 3, but their suspension isn't the most comfortably so I've heard. After that I've just stayed away and now with the Kona, there's even less reason to give Mazda a look.

At least Honda went back to making fun cars so if you really desire something fun all around the new Civic Si is a good option, unless you have more money to shell out for a Type R. Available as a hatch means you won't have to sacrifice much space coming from this Kona.

True. Actually, I think that Mazda is on the decreasing slope these days. I think they need to come up with the whole new concept to climb back to the top of the mountain.
We recently purchased a cx30 which is a big step up for a cuv compared to the cx3 if you're looking. We also have the kona ultimate 1.6t and in my opinion it is still more peppy then the mazda cx30 unless you get the new turbo mazda. The mazda has a quieter cabin and more luxurious ride then the kona but I still love them both.
