Has anyone notice the fogs turn off when you turn left or right from a stop? I was not sure or if was imagination the other night headlights on /fog on after stopping and then turning left or right the would turn off then turn back on after turning. If this a normal thing I think it is a weird design.

The fog light or the DRL light strip?
The fog light or the DRL light strip?
The lower fogs lights. I know the drl will turn off for the turn signal but this is even with no turn signal on.
huh. I'll have to pay attention when I drive home tonight.
Yes, the fogs turned off when turning. Don't know which model you have? The turn assist light turns on and fogs off when turning.

Another interesting light tidbit. According to the owner's manual the rear brake lights flash few times when you hit the brake suddenly.

I have the limited but unaware that I had turn assist, strange they would do that. Is that only in the auto setting for the headlamps?
Also that is cool that the brake light flashes a few times.

So looking in the owners manual I did find it, it is called "smart cornering lamp" , strange but I guess it helps.
I noticed this as well! I’m guessing it’s a safety feature of sorts. I’m amazed of the amount of features the Kona comes with.

Question....what is "turn assist" ? And how is this related to the fog lights? And...why would it be safer for the fog lights to momentarily turn off when making a turn?

Thanks!
My fog lights stay on when I turn.

Low Beam Assist-Static light (if equipped)
While driving a corner, for greater visibility and safety, either the left or right side Low Beam Assist-Static light will turn on automatically. The Low Beam Assist-Static light will turn on when one of the following condi- tions occur.
• Vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (6 mph) and steering wheel angle is turned approximately 80 degrees with the low beam on.
• Vehicle speed is between 10 km/h (6 mph) to 90 km/h (56 mph) and steering wheel angle is turned approximately 35 degrees with the low beam on.
• When the vehicle is in reverse with one of the conditions above satis- fied, the light opposite to the direc- tion the steering wheel is steered
I wish that I would have seen this before I took my Kona to the dealer this morning! Ugh, this "safety feature" is quite unnecessary in my opinion. I like the idea of the smart cornering lamps, but why do the fog lights have to turn off when it is engaged? I wish there was a way to override this feature.
I can see it, picture someone on other side of road pulling out of a gas station with fog lights on and turning toward you, until he is straight the fog lights can hit your windshield view and momentary blind you. So the on coming lane gets flashed by the fog lights if on during turn.

There's not unless you turn off the lights all together.

Perhaps its to comply with state jurisdictions...

I know that in Virginia there are laws in regard to the number of forward facing lights a vehicle is allowed to have "on" at any given time; with that limit being 4(headlights, foglights/cornering lamps>. Perhaps when you meet the parameters that activate the cornering lights the fog lights are switched off to comply with various jurisdictions.

My guess..

Not exactly, IMHO there far to many vehicle laws that vary from state to state. I believe it's more of an overall safety oriented response, to Hyundai's logic, nothing more.

Is this a canadian thing? I'm pretty sure mine don't do this.
This might clarify:

1: DRLs, always on when vehicle is on, bright white LEDs
2: Headlights (and hi-beams), only on when headlights on "ON" or "AUTO" (when dark), bright white LEDs (Ultimate/Limited) or warm white halogens (SE/SEL)
3: Turn-assist lights, only on when headlights are on and steering wheel is turned a certain angle past center (changes depending on speed), warm white
4: Fog lights, only on when fog light switch is turned to "ON" and headlights are on, warm white

Interesting!!! Please test again in both Auto Lights and Full ON with Fog Lights, and let us know. Maybe there is an option in the Vehicle Settings Menu? I flipped through all of it, but didn't see anything, i'll check again.

My 2019 Kona Ultimate- This issue drives me crazy, my Fog Lights shut off when winding through a residential neighborhood. If I was slowly driving through heavy snow at night or navigating off-road and dodging large rocks or hazards...I don't want my fog lights shutting off! Who in their right mind thought reducing your night driving visibility was a good idea? If there is a plausible reason for safety, let me know. This just sounds like poor user-interface planning.

turn assist is supposed to light up the corner when you turn, so you see more of the corner in the dark.
