Finally, the "impossible" has been accomplished!!

No more excuses. Your illegal PnP LED bulb swaps are officially OBSOLETE! WHOOOOOO, major tech breakthrough!!!

So next time someone starts a thread on the forum "hey, my headlights are poop, how do I make them brighter", an admin shouldn't say "search for LED bulbs" and close the thread.

We can now have a DISCUSSION about RETROFITTING.

LED bulbs in halogen projector housings produce dangerous glare and unpredictable uneven light output since a LED bulb cannot properly replicate the output of a halogen bulb as the original lighting engineers designed. Are LEDs brighter? Of course! Are they obnoxious and reckless and irresponsible and annoying everyone else on the road? Also of course! But until this moment, nobody else had even proposed an alternative solution so OF COUUUUURSE that's what everyone was doing. Doesn't make it right though.

My hope is that, with the newly available CB&D Kona retrofit bracket, the industrious DIYer will be able to perform this mod over a weekend to safely and legally improve their headlight output. For everyone else, I will be available with turnkey headlight build solutions. Also, with that bracket coming to market, you aren't just limited to ME building your lights... Find and employ your local headlight retrofitter! Support local business! There will be plenty of competent builders who will perform basic builds much more affordably than I will.

To be absolutely clear: retrofitting is always significantly more expensive than a bulb swap.... and worth every extra dollar spent. There is no comparison between a properly built headlight set utilizing quality aftermarket components to any sort of plug&play bulb swap solution... even the LED reflectors available on the higher trim level Konas don't stand a chance against a quality retrofit. If you've never experienced one first hand, you simply don't know what you're missing out on.

Of course, I did a LOT more than just a retrofit on my build. I did some paint, an auxiliary high beam LED pod, some addressable LEDs, ya know, standard stuff for me. But don't let my excess that discourage you from a basic build purely for the increased controlled light output. Headlights are safety devices and we all deserve to see safely without blinding others on the roadways.

Right now I'm swamped with work so I can't put too much work into this thread documenting the build --- that will be reserved for my website anyways. But I will link the pictures on my IG page and the YT video so you can see them. They're on the car currently but I won't be able to post any completed install pictures until after the bumper work is complete which is scheduled for next month. Patience please!

In the meanwhile, here's two lil behind the scenes teaser pics focusing on the projectors themselves:

Your the second on this forum, and way down the list in the 200ish range for kona retrofits. Kona retrofits are popular on the Vietnamese pages and Philippines pages. Other down side, most professional retrofitters wont use light pods, due to their horrible light output, and poor cutoff. Nice looking regardless.

Are you planning on selling these conversions? Like the pre built headlight service.
I am primarily a local service provider, but I routinely take on remote builds to cater to specific models that I have experience with. So, .... yes.

I am ALL FOR being proven wrong. Love me a slice of humble pie. But I disagree with you on multiple fronts. Strongly.

Please show me any documentation on this forum of a previously accomplished retrofit. I dug deep and hard and came up empty handed.

Bruh, we ain't in Asia... those guys do WILD ish to their cars where labor is dirt nasty cheap. I'm sure there's somebody somewhere who has has done literally anything and everything. But if I can't find it, it doesn't exist, ya feel me? AND I WENT LOOKING. Welcome to America, where it's a general industry consensus that this build hasn't been accomplished since myself and all of my professional colleagues that I discussed this build with had never seen or heard of it being done. Do I know everyone and everything? Absolutely not. But my finger is pretty darn tootin close to the pulse of the upper echelon of industry pros in this regard. So when I ask about a Kona retrofit and I hear crickets, and everyone on this forum is obsessed with LED bulb swaps, I think I'm justified in saying "first!".

Okay, you're just talking out of turn with that last sentence. First of all, light pods having horrible light output? Poor cutoff? My dude. Light pods, by product design, don't have cutoffs. And horrible light output based on what criteria?! Light distribution? Intensity? Price point? gtfo! Clearly you know nothing of the SSC1s. What purely unjustified personal opinions being stated as facts.

Well at least you got one thing right: it is a nice looking build.

Clearly you haven't been doing retrofits for that long if spot pods is what you use of Highbeams. But i digress. However, a quick search shows this mild retrofit from the UK.
Automotive parking light Grille Automotive lighting Automotive side marker light Bumper
. Plus, there are posts from me going back to early 2018 when i retrofitted Toyota Corolla LED projectors into the low/high beam, and european BMW X6 led fog projectors into the turn lamps.

As a friendly heads up, This is the most inactive of all the Kona forums/pages. 90% of the heavily modified kona's and their respective owners don't come here. So your advertising on deaf ears.
