Keep all your receipt, there will be a class action lawsuit on this one.
I agree with you on a Class Action, mine is getting a small block and I have been treated well so far from the dealership even my car sales person following up with me. I didn't have a loaner for a week though. But keeping all my notes and receipts. I do know one person who hired a lawyer under the Calif. Lemon Law. I got such a great deal on my car I really want to hold onto it - but I do feel I should be compensated for this. I just trying to learn more how all this affects the value of the car?

My 2020 kona with 11500 miles started clicking, went to dealership had me do an oil consumption test then at 13000 they changed the engine. Now not even 200 miles on the new engine and it's starting to click again! I bought it brand spanking new and only have the dealership do oil changes. Anyone else have to replace their engine due to "manufacture" defect causing the pistons to fail, not once, but likely twice? I foresee kona class action law suits in the future. This is ridiculous.
Yep this is me as well. 2020 model and engine issues started by 5000KM. I kept persistent and at 18 months they pulled it off the road for engine issues. There was a recall and my car passed the test everytime. I kept bringing it back saying it sounds like a truck and runs even worse. Finally a senior and seasoned mechanic sat in it and revved it up a few time and wouldn't you know it...it failed the test. Now it's been sitting for 4 month as engines are impossible to find while I drive thier competition KIA as a rental. When I do get it back...I am sure there will many issues as it's been acting for months not started and not driven. What a disappointment I won't buy another Hyundia and will dump this one as soon as I can. Hope you experience better

Can anyone tell me if this is a continued problem with 2022s and upcoming 23s? Considering Kona N or even a Santa Cruz Night edition, both are turbo 2.0s
My current 13 Sonta limited has already been given the added eng mileage
Love the cars but can't go into this if it's still an issue.
Any info would be appreciated

I have a 2020 Kona Limited AWD with 1.6L turbo engine - 13,000 miles and engine has failed. Waiting to hear back from Service Manager on what to expect relative to timing and approval from Hyundai for engine replacement. Worse is I bought what I thought would be a reliable car for my daughters going to college in California. I live in Michigan. They won't give them a loaner because they are under age 21. Rental Car companies also won't rent to them under age 21. Effectively stranded.

We don't see many 1.6T motors going bad on their own, without the help from a bad after market tune or the wrong sparkplugs. It normally is a very robust motor, one of Hyundai's most reliable turbo motors. What happened to motor #1? And if motor #1 had aluminum in the oil and they reused ANYTHING from motor #1 oil system, ( cylinder head, turbo, turbo oil lines, oil pump, oil cooler plate, ect) metal contamination could be the problem on #2.

Try the Turo app.

yea - no modifications whatsoever to the car. Completely factory - and maintained by the dealership (3 yr/36k mi free service). Was just serviced less than 1,000 miles ago. Waiting to hear from dealership about what Hyundai has authorized for repairs. Will be getting rid of it as soon as my girls return from college next summer. It's a shame because we really like the Kona - especially with the AWD/1.6L turbo - it's a lot of fun to drive. I bought it instead of a used car for twin girls when they started driving 2 years ago because I didn't want anything that would break down on them and leave them stranded - so I opted to buy them a brand new car. Who have thought . . .

I feel you, Freedom. This is scary and unsafe. I do have to admit Hyundai, while slow as molasses, takes care of you. They offered to repurchase my car after replacing the engine. After 4 long stays at the dealer for oil consumption tests and ultimately the engine replacement, they always had a loaner car for me.
