Ahead of its official unveil which was expected to take place in the coming weeks, the new Hyundai Kona was spotted roaming around Madrid’s city center Sunday morning without any camouflage on.

This isn’t just a random run in with the Kona, CarScoops claims that these exclusive shots were taken when the Kona was filming a press kit video or a TV spot. What we don’t see are a group of Mercedes V-Class models being driven behind the Kona to block off traffic, giving the camera car some space for a clean shot of the light blue subcompact SUV.

Hyundai wanted to do something special when it came to the Kona and their new SUV certainly stands out in a crowd with its aggressive styling. It may feature the Hyundai signature trapezoidal single frame grille found on other SUVs, but the Kona’s variation is tweaked for a ‘Cascading Grille’ look. The front facia is also sporting a twin-headlamp setup with narrow DRLs mounted above the LED headlights.

In contrast, the rear looks a bit more conventional with a design similar to what you’d find on the Tucson. The turning, fog and reverse lights are housed inside a second unit.

Once released, the Kona will be offered with turbocharged 1.0 and 1.4-litre petrol units along with some diesel options and an all-wheel drive version will be available as well.

I don't understand the three sets of lights; headlights, fog lights and that odd set in the lower grille. What is it for exactly and can I leave it out?
