I have a 2021 Kona 64kW Permium. I started having issues late last year after 2 years of ownership. After a week away I return to the airport and was unable to start the car. The Keyfob didn't work, so using the 'key' I got access to the drivers door. I couldn't open the other doors or the boot. The kids had to climb in via the drivers door. I called the lease company and the AA came out to jump start the car. He said it is happening 3 or 4 times a day with different EV's so it's a common problem. After it was started I drove home and put it on charge overnight and it was ok the next day. I took the car to Hyundai and they said it was a BMS (battery monitoring system) software update that was required, which they did. After this incident I bought my own small jump pack and carry it with me now. All was ok for a good few months, but I've had to use it a few times recently. I had my car in for a service last week and Hyundai said there's nothing wrong with the battery and carried out some battery drain tests and said it needed to be charged overnight. After this I have still had to jump start the car. On another note, before the initial incident, I noticed that my voice controls (either built in or Apple CarPlay / Android Auto) stopped working. Also, I got in the car one morning and heard an outgoing call ringtone. I thought I'd pocket dialed someone, but the car had called the emergency services. After apologising I googled this and it's apparently it's related to a low 12V battery.

Apparently the car monitors the 12V battery, and if it's low it will the start the HV battery to charge it. You may have noticed a green LED in the Hyundai badge at the front come on from time to time, this is showing the HV battery is charging the 12V battery so I've been told. I still see this, but clearly it's not charging sufficiently. I've given up chasing my local dealer. Best option is not to buy another Hyundai product.

The symptoms you've described, such as difficulty starting the car, issues with key fob access, and the need for jump starts, indicate a potential problem with the 12V battery or its charging system. The 12V battery is responsible for powering various components of the vehicle, including the infotainment system and certain control modules. Hi there guys

I currently experiencing the following issue with the battery, have to keep on jump started it,but the thing is I leave it on the drive for one week,I go shopping today it starts fine, drive to supermarket,go shopping, cor back and battery completely drained,no car fob recognised message display or SOS,no lights left on or anything else,I always check the car before locking and leaving it parked.
Anyone else experiencing this issue please, can anyone help me out with understanding what exactly is causing my battery to drain please?

Have read a few threads in this forum on the 12volt battery. This is a real issue.

We had had this issue a few times, with the doors open for not very long - maybe 15 minutes. At the 2 year service we asked for the battery to be checked and were told it was fine.

Now stranded again, after doors open for five minutes to load the car. Ridiculous. And it is a Saturday, so Hyundai service is closed.

seriously frustrated that the battery was not changed at the 2 year service!!!!!
Wondering whether to find a different type of 12 volt battery!

Have had a flat battery three times aa called out.
After third time new battery fitted every thing fine.
Just taken car in for battery recall.
NOW HAVE FLAT BATTERY AGAIN.
BATTERY ON CAR READS 8.5 VOLTS. WHEN REMOVED TO CHARGE BATTERY READS 11.9 VOLTS BEFORE CHARGE.
CAN HEAR CLICKING UNDER BONNET LIKE A RELAY CLICKING IS THIS THE FAULT AND NOT A BATTERY ISSUE ?
WILL SEE WHAT DEALER HAS TO SAY ON MUNDAY

Something similar happened to me a couple months ago and I think I isolated it to the rear hatch not being closed completely. I googled it and read that when the rear hatch isn't closed completely it will drain the battery AND also prevents the big battery from recharging the 12 volt battery, so 2 strikes...

Or you could get to the bottom of the problem, find out that the OEM 12V battery isn't suited to EV use, and install one that is better suited to low discharge cycles, such as an AGM. I did this to ours, a Century Absorbent Glass Mat model, and have had no further problems in 2 subsequent years. You don't get any sympathy if you whinge, and the little Union Flag next to your screen name gives rise to some suppositions as the the national propensity to . . .

Look at the various threads on this, and you'll find the problem was solved by multiple owners several years ago. For those who came in late: Install an LED boot light globe (remove the incandescent one in the meantime), adjust your tailgate bumpers (by winding them in a turn or so) so the gate closes fully in each instance, change your 12V battery to an absorbent glass mat (AGM) model, carry a portable Li-Ion jump pack with you (mine fits under the passenger seat, & I check its charge and top it up from the 12V lighter socket every 6 mo. or so). Not that hard.

After reading numerous 12V battery nightmare stories, I found a good youtube where someone replaced their kona battery with Costco's 121R. I read where some dealer's said it would be a month, and the stories got worse from there. So, I decided to get the Costco battery, since my 2020 is still using the factory battery. $119.00 plus tax and core. The youtube poster said his battery is performing well several months on.

Hi. New Kona 64kWh MY2021 owner from Finland. I'm second owner of this car. I'm not sure about the 12V battery. In yearly service they measured it with result "Good". There was 1/3 bars in graphic, but yes, result was "Good". I'm ensure what to do with that. What type is original MY21 (Facelift) battery? Is this problem stille existing with facelift models? I have read it was only with MY20.5 and olders. Is that true?

Hi Navguy, My Kona 64kWh was finally delivered last week. I have been following your advice and turning the car on before doing anything else. That has given me a charging problem. I have an OHME wall charger capabable of around 7kW. Twice now I have had the car "on" and plugged in the charger and set up the % aiming point. Returning to the car I have tried to turn it "off", but it gives me a message "Unplug the charger to drive" (or somesuch). When I try to unplug the charger I find it locked in. I could find no way to do anything! (Dark in the garage and unable to find the physical release - pushed an orange button to no effect - I must find this release.) So I switched off the mains electricity breaker for the OHME charger. Then I could remove the charging plug and turn the car on and off.
You pull the orange butene up not push it down
